Using Wax to finish your Solid Wood Internal Door

When you wax your door, you bring out the natural beauty of the grain, waxing can lead to a nice soft and smooth finish to your door.
A wax looks nice, with more of a sheen than a gloss. It can be re-waxed as many times as you like and buffed until the required sheen level is obtained or indeed not buffed if a low sheen is preferred.
Waxing when first applied may make your door look a little darker but when the wax has dried it will tend to lighten.
It is essential that the door is sanded smooth and all the dust is removed before application.
If required the door can be stained prior to the waxing if a natural look is not required, coloured waxes are available on the market.
When applying the wax always work along the grain massaging the wax into the wood then allow to dry, you can then buff up the wax to a required sheen, it is recommend that you apply at least 3 to 4 coats of wax to give the door the required level of wax to help maintain its look.
If the door becomes damaged or marked, it is usually possible to touch up the area with wax. Always tidy and clean the damaged area before applying the wax.
A point worth noting is that a warmer temperature will soften the wax in the tin and can make it liquid, this will not affect the wax but care must be taken when opening the tin.
