Why fit a Fire Door?

Modern building regulations are very strict on the use of fire doors in certain instances. It may be that your architect has stipulated a fire door in certain areas. It is always good practice to separate a room with a source of fire such as a stove, fireplace, oven or hob from other areas of the house. In this way, if an accident should occur, the fire door can provide your family with vital extra time to make their escape. Furthermore, your building control officer or architect may have specified fire doors for various areas of the property, due to an attic conversion for example.

Rating for fire door blanks

Our fire doors are FD30 rated to give thirty minutes of time before they will burn through. Installing an FD30 door blank can be important in slowing the spread of fire and allowing enough time to evacuate from the building.

An FD60 door blank provides twice as much protection. These 60 minute fire door blanks may not be necessary for all residential homes, but they can help with peace of mind. FD60 are more commonly found in commercial or public buildings where a higher level of protection may be required.

What is their purpose?

Fire doors create a passive fire safety system, protecting both domestic and commercial buildings from the spread of fire by confining it to a specific area for a longer period of time. This allows people within the building enough time to escape via alternative routes which might otherwise be cut off by fire.

They are a legal requirement for particular buildings, including for flats and commercial properties, but the prime purpose for fire doors is to save lives and halt the progress of a destructive fire.
