Why Do Wooden Doors Bow or Warp
ONLINE DOOR STOREShare
During the lifetime of your solid wood door you may notice that your door may start to bow or warp slightly. This would allow heat and air to escape more easily, this is generally caused by atmospheric conditions such as humidity, heat and damp.
The best way to prevent this is to ensure that when you install your door all the areas of the door have been properly treated with good quality products with the final finish of at least two coats not forgetting the top and bottom and sides of the doors are just has equally important.
If your door Has warped or bowed and you have caught it early then a fix should be possible simply remove the door from its hinges and remove the existing paint or varnish with sandpaper at the top and bottom of the door. You should then be able to assess the extent of the damage to the door.
If the door is not too badly damaged place it onto a workhorse or similar but suitable apparatus and place weighted items on to the affected areas, (ensure the objects will not damage the door) and leave for 24 hours.
If the door is badly warped then you may need to put some wet heavy towels or blankets laid across the warped area this you may need to do over a number of days until the door is straight and you may need to adjust the weight also.
Once the door is straight let it dry and then reapply good quality primer/undercoat and finishing product to your door.
